Previous Earnings

Your previous earnings are another way you can acquire the minimum of 75 points required in order to qualify under the HSMP scheme. Your gross earnings (before tax) taken over a period of 12 months prior to submission of your application are taken into consideration when claiming points. Please note that the income band is determined by the country where you have been resident and working for the last 12 month and not your nationality. It is also noted by the government in how they structured the HSMP visa, that it is more difficult for those individuals working in ‘less developed’ nations to receive the same level of income as that often paid to those individuals in ‘more developed’ nations. Even though a person based abroad may have the same level of skills as their UK based counterpart they are often paid less due to their location. Countries have therefore been placed into bands A – E. You will then be able to claim anything from 5 – 45 points based on your previous earnings in the country you have been resident and working in for the past 12 months.

The minimum earning criteria for Band A Countries (including UK, USA, Australia, Hong Kong and Japan to name a few) is £16,000. This amount increases on a sliding scale up to £40,000+

The minimum earning criteria for Band B Countries (including New Zealand, Malaysia, Mauritius and Israel to name a few) is £7,000. This amount increases on a sliding scale up to £17,500+

The minimum earning criteria for Band Countries (including Russian Federation, Brazil, South Africa and Turkey to name a few) is £5,000. This amount increases on a sliding scale up to £12,500+

The minimum earning criteria for Band D Countries (including India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh to name a few) is £3,000. This amount increases on a sliding scale up to £7,500+

The minimum earning criteria for Band E Countries (including Nepal, Nigeria, Ghana and Malawi to name a few) is £1,400. This amount increases on a sliding scale up to £3,500+

Please be advised that evidence that the earned income was declared for tax purposes should be provided.

It is also possible to include Part-Time earnings as well as earnings from several part-time jobs. Once again, you would need to provide sufficient evidence of earnings for each individual post

Please be advised that under the previous earnings category, not all income will be considered. If it comes from property rental or the dividends from investments, except in the situation when you are active in the management on a daily basis, these earnings will not be considered.
